SUSTAINABLE HARVEST AND TIMING

The fruit of kwú7kwuwes is ready to harvest in late August and into September. Some people believe the fruit is sweeter after the first frost. Be mindful to look for a large stand of kwú7kwuwes before harvesting, and be sure to leave at least half the fruit on each bush for wildlife to enjoy.

PLANT GIFTS

Kwú7kwuwes is rich in vitamins A and C, and the juice has been used to support urinary tract health and lower blood sugar. The bark is a strong antispasmodic. Another common name for this plant is crampbark because an infusion of the dried bark can help with muscle cramps. The fruit is strongly scented and has a large seed that needs to be removed before consuming, so lends itself well to juices and jelly.
